It takes hours and hours of unspectacular preparation for moments of spectacular results.

My high school lacrosse coach, Coach Miles, said that to us ALL the time.

We played for 3 championships in my 4 years there because of all the preparation nobody else saw.

Weight room, wall ball, shooting before practice, shooting after practice, film room, etc.

Entrepreneurship isn't much different.

In my world, the hours of unspectacular work look like:

• Writing and recording content on weekends

• Building and rebuilding financial plans and spreadsheets

• Researching new strategies, products, and structures that might give clients an edge

• Coordinating with CPAs, attorneys, and (lately) custodians so the plan can actually be implemented

Most of those hours will never be noticed.

Then, every once in a while, you get a spectacular moment:

• A family seeing how much tax they may be able to save.

• The relief that comes with diversifying a concentrated stock position.

• Someone retires knowing their financial plan will support the life they want.

• A client introduces you to someone they care about because they trust you that much.

Those moments are incredible.

But they're earned by all of the ordinary days that came before them.

Coach Miles passed away a few weeks ago, and I've found myself thinking about that quote often.
